During the cold months of the year (October through April), Immanuel is part of a coalition of churches in Valparaiso who provide housing for homeless men. (Spring Valley Homeless shelter provides housing for homeless women, children, and families). These churches provide a meal, a safe, warm place to sleep, and a healthy breakfast. Each participating church takes one night per week to provide housing for all seven nights. Immanuel’s night is Saturday. In conjunction with New Creations men’s shelter, the men receive help in finding jobs and getting re-established.

If you are willing to help with these or any other matters related to providing
a night of shelter for homeless men, please contact Matt McGuirl at

Help is needed in the following areas:

  • providing the evening meal
  • spending the night in shifts
  • 6:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m.
  • 10:00 p.m.- 5:00 a.m.
  • 5:00 a.m.- 7:00 a.m. (help with breakfast)
